Route 4.

Trip to la Roque St Christophe, Le Thot, Montignac, Lascaux, Les Eyzies

This road leads you to very attractive places to visit :
the cave Roque St Christophe inhabited thousands of years ago (in addition with a pretty nature and beautiful places to have a picnic!)
Le Thot with its beautiful parc,
the well liked village Montignac,
Cave of Lascaux with its paintings on rock color and relief
and at the end Les Eyzies with the world prehistoric museum.
A spacio-temporal trip !

To have a change, we will take the same road way on and return. First of all, let’s go to the further point. From the campsite, way to center of Le Bugue. On the right after the bridge, way to Campagne and Les Eyzies.

This “green road” in full nature (D706) carries out you by La Roque St Christophe, St Leon de Vézère and Thot towards Montignac.
Here you can buy a ticket for the caves of Lascaux 2 (see page “Caves”) at VVV (Tourist office) and also possibly for the zoo with Thot. In this large park you find as well animals alive as empaillés prehistoric animals. Amusing for the children..

From Thot you go down again until La Roque St Christophe. Though this cave is not in the information of the caves, cellars and pits, it is also pleasant to visit, especially if you red books of the bears of the caves of Jean Auel. If you’ve visited or will visit the caves described in information, I advise you, after a possible picnic at the edge of the river, to further go down in the little city Les Eyzies.

This small very touristic city is amusing to cross, make shopping, to visit the market, to stroll along the Vezère and… to visit the museum close to the rock face “in top” of Les Eyzies. While passing by a long staircase you arrive close to a large stone statue of the man of Cro Magnon.

Here is a particular museum. A new part was open in 2005. This museum is declared like prehistoric world center. There are all kinds of craniums classified in order to see the development of the human race. The place where was discovered one of our ancestors is also kept in his original state. All (also bones) is there like that was found. There is simply a wall out of glass placed in front. Very impressive and instructive!

If we had a good reason to have a picnic at La Roque St Christophe, in Les Eyzies we can have a good meal at a reasonable price. A lot of little restaurants are along the road.

By continuing the road that you know well now, you arrive at Campagne. In this village on your left a castle is. But it is a private field.

And there you are in Le Bugue.
You will find there the famous campsite le rocher de la granelle !
Don’t miss to visit its refreshment bar !
