Route 2.

driving tour via Monbazillac and the old town of Bergerac.

Passing by a mill paper for parchments, this road leads you to a wine’s castel of Monbazillac. For amateurs : here you will taste !

Crossing the fabulous center of the town of Bergerac (well known for Cyrano’s nose) you come back then to the campsite le rocher de la Granelle Le Bugue.

Cyrano de Bergerac

While leaving the camp-site you drive towards the center of Bugue. After the bridge on the left and first road on the left in front of the firemen.
At top of the rise you can stop to make a beautiful picture up of the camp-site “le rocher de la Granelle” (do you know it ?)
Just after a rather tight right turn, you can park on the left, but pay attention to the traffic !
Then follow D703 to Pezuls and Lalinde.

In Lalinde keep on the right : to Bergerac (no choice : one way road !).
In Port de Couze you can choose :

- straight on by D 660 via Bergerac (N21) to Monbazillac

- or on your right, across the bridge, and D660 to Couze- D37 Lanquais – D22 Faux – D19 St-Aubin – D19 St-Nexans – N21 Monbazillac.

The first road is longer, but usually faster (it depends on the traffic) .

The second choice, advised by John, carries out you towards small villages which draw you aside from Bergerac.
On the other hand, in Couze and St-Front you can visir (temporarily free) a water mill, le « Moulin de la Roque ».
You can park on your left. The mill (unrecognizable from outside) is right side of the street..
You can visit all the mill and look at how are manufactured artisanalement all kinds of paper.

In Monbazillac, when you’ve finished the visit of a castle which produce wine, it’s time to taste !
Of course you can also buy some.
Near the castle’s carpark, you have nice places to have a picnic.
But vines, in the area between Bergerac and Monbazillac you also find fields of tobacco and hangars of drying.

From Monbazillac you continue the way by N21 towards Bergerac.
Enter the center and try to park, after having crossed the bridge over the Dordogne. The old center is practically entirely restored.
That deserves certainly a walk.
You’ll perhaps meet ……….

Cyrano of Bergerac (with his long nose).
And finally a visit to the tobacco museum will show you how are worked the tobacco plants you saw along your trip.

It would be a pity to come back by the same way that in the morning.
Here is a pleasant alternative to turn over to the camp-site: the “green road” north-eastern direction
For that, it’s better to take D660 to Lalinde.
In Mouleydie way left to St Sauveur (D21).
In this village, straight on and right at the crossing to Librac and St Alvère (D32).
In St Alvère right after the church, and D703 up to Le Bugue.

Do you remember the way to the campsit le rocher de la Granelle ?
